A Trace to the Beauty of Angkor: WoTrus’ 2018 Cambodia Tour

In order to thank the team for its hard work and encourage team morale, Wotrus CA has been organizing many annual tours for all employees. The annual tourism of 2018 was opened in April. The destination was an ancient country, Cambodia. From the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh to the Khmer villages, the Traces of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, and a witness of the life style of the local people constituted the main line of the exotic tour. In order to ensure 7*24 hours of high-quality customer service, WoTrus employees went in two groups. The first group had returned to work on time and the second batch is about to depart.

The first stop of the Cambodian tour was the capital, Phnom Penh. Phnom Penh used to have the reputation of “Oriental Paris”. After a half-century of war, it is re-emerging from the ruins. A combination of modern and primitive shocks, beauty and chaos formed a unique style of the city. WoTrus team visited the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh with Khmer traditional architectural style and religious color, the largest temple in Cambodia, the Nawalung Monastery, and the independent monument established to commemorate Cambodia’s freedom from French colonial rule. Among these most representative local attractions, one can always feel the changes in religion, culture and history of the Phnom Penh.

Cambodia is famous for Angkor Wat, a temple that is dusty for thousands of years, exquisite stone carvings that are weather-beaten, and the "Khmer smiles" that are still breathtaking through the millennium, giving you a sneak peak to the ancient civilization and prosperity of this ancient country. WoTrus Team went to Siem Reap Province where Angkor is located to visit the remains, such as the Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei, and the Ta Prohm temple, which were left during the heyday of the Khmer Angkor dynasty. The Angkor dynasty has undergone changes in religious beliefs. The Angkor Wat architectural complex also incorporates elements of Hinduism and Buddhism. The decoration is rich in relief. Carvings are everywhere to be seen, like corridors, pillars, lattices, foundation stones and railings. The most common one is the fairy embossment of the entire wall, with a smile, wearing a floral ornament, dignified beauty. The most well-known is the “Khmer Smile” at the Bayon Temple of Angkor Thom, where a group of Buddha sculptures shut their eyes and smile. Though thousands years passed, they still conveys the sense of peace.

In order to experience the local customs and life style, WoTrus visited Cambodia's largest freshwater lake, Tonle Sap Lake and the most ethnically diverse village in the village. The Khmer village is a relatively affluent local village. It still retains the customs of “matrix society” and follows the tradition of “marrying a son-in-law”. April 14th to 16th is the new year in Cambodia, people in the village welcomed foreign tourists by splashing water and painting powder. The beautiful local instructors invited us to visit her home and visit the dwelling house with the most Khmer specialties. The life of residents of Tonle Sap Lake is another sight. It is said that most of the residents around Tonle Sap Lake are Vietnamese refugees without nationality. They cannot live ashore in a boat house by the lake. The villages near the lake have houses and schools, shops, churches, etc., built on the water to form a special settlement.

Although the five-day tour was short, it is a great opportunity to understand the history, religion, culture and life of Southeast Asian countries. Happiness comes from one’s struggle. Living in a war-torn country, the Cambodian people are struggling to fight for a better life. Living in so peaceful and prosperous a place as China is being, how can we not be grateful and positive to life and work? It is the struggle by our previous generation that brings us to the new era today, what we have to do is continuing to struggle better life in the future.
